VTOL and Yaw to steer. Pitch and roll to aim weapons. (1) activates RCWS. The Gharial is a Paternian infantry mobility vehicle based off the M1140 MTV variant of the FMTV series of trucks designed by Paternian Defense Industries.

It was developed for use by the Paternian National Gendarme, in response to losses of HSAV, Humvee, and lighter vehicles to IEDs and land mines in the ongoing Southern Insurgency. A new armored vehicle was needed, and the only suitable Paternian vehicles for the task was the M1118 Commando, turretless M7 Dragon, or M1151 Dragoon APC could fulfill this role.

While funds and widespread internal support for procurement of these machines were present, they would have tarnished the public image of the National Gendarme as increasingly militarized. This was exemplified when procurement of several unarmed M1118 Commando armored cars as battering rams were roundly criticized by political groups across the entire spectrum. Their case was not helped by the fact these machines were employed extensively by numerous militaries in combat against regular and irregular forces.

It was decided to procure a dedicated armored vehicle for this purpose which could fulfill their needs better. The Gharial was the result. Economical from the use of a military truck chassis and designed to survive mine blasts which would cripple a Victoria tank through the use of a double-layered V-hull, it was exactly what was needed.

Make a big enough boom, and you’ll get through anything.

This thing is specifically designed to counter mines of up to 60 pounds TNT equivalent.

That being said, ballistic protection is only up to the 14.5mm Soviet and 15mm Prussian.

Remember that armor protection on tanks is focused on the front. Naturally, every anti-tank weapon aims at everything but that. Mines strike from below.

Remember that even the vaunted Victoria is only rated to a 20 pounds TNT equivalent, the standard explosive content of a standard AT mine. However, the Victoria’s Mine Protection Kit allows it to withstand five mines. @PyrusEnderhunter

Hah, right. Even with this, you'd probably come up with some other crud like: "The IEDs can insti-pen sloped armor rated for a 120mm railgun" @Pilotmario

    Remember last season?

This would have been VERY helpful for not getting stomped by an an angry Afrikaner heiress who reads history books. @PyrusEnderhunter

@Flash0of0green A variant based off the lighter 2.5-ton LMTV was considered, but public opinion regarding the procurement of surplus military gear such as the M1118 Commando changed in the events and aftermath of the Huntsville Women's Health Center.

In the massacre, where a dozen heavily-armed Southern Confederacy gunmen with submachine guns, assault rifles, and hand grenades attacked the "baby murder factory" and killed 42 patients, doctors, and patients and injured dozens more, an unarmed M1118 Commando crewed by Lt. Barnes Winston and an unidentified officer rescued 15 doctors, nurses, patients, and bystanders by drawing fire to the vehicle. Lt. Winston also engaged the gunmen through the firing ports until ammunition with his G3 rifle until he ran out of ammunition.

Given that the event happened live on prime time television, streamed by dozens of individuals and news agencies, and witnessed by many more, public sentiment changed toward the need for the armored personnel carriers, and the National Gendarme procured some M1118. The need for a lighter Gharial disappeared in light of this development.

@Pilotmario what would be cool is if you could make a lighter version of this with A canvas roof and Doors for base patrol. Like what the US military dose with there HUMVIE's.
