Aero L-29 Ground Attack
The Czechoslovakian Aero L-29 Delfin was the standard jet trainer of the Warsaw Pact countries during the 1960s.
It was easy to fly, undemanding and pretty popular. 3.665 Delfins were built. 2.000 of them served in the Soviet air force. They were also exported to many third world countries. Some Delfins take part in air races.
Maximum speed during level flight: 660 kph.
In the 1973 Yom Kippur War the Egyptians used some of their L-29 to attack Israeli tanks. They were armed with two ORO-57 rocket pods, each holding 4 57mm S-5 unguided missiles. The operation proved suicidal: 14 of 18 Delfins were lost to enemy air-defence-fire.
