Description (From Wiki)
The Chance Vought F4U Corsair ( English : " Corsair ") was a carrier -based fighter aircraft , which saw service primarily during World War II and the Korean War . Demand for the aircraft soon outstripped the Vought company's production capacity, so it was also produced by Goodyear and Brewster: Goodyear's Corsairs were designated FGs and Brewster's F3As . From the delivery of the first prototype to the United States Navy in 1940, until the last delivery made in 1953 to FranceVought produced 12,571 F4U Corsair aircraft, in 16 different models, making it the longest produced internal combustion engine fighter in United States history (1942–1953).
