Hummingbird Attack Fighter Mk 3

Auto Credit Based on Pilotmario's Hummingbird Attack Fighter Mk 2

VTOL operates air brakes. Press (1) to (4) to release underwing ground stores, currently loaded with rocket pods. A significantly upgraded Hummingbird Attack Fighter, featuring wingtip and overwing missile hardpoints, enabling the carriage of six more missiles. More efficient inlets were placed and the fuselage spine has been pared down to improve rearward visibility. Also includes standard software upgrades. The Air Force decided to replace the Pummeler, and to a lesser extent, the Boar, with the Hummingbird, since the Hummingbird stands a far better chance of surviving encounters with enemy fighter opposition than the Boar or Pummeler, and is just as effective as the other aircraft. Through a flip of the switch and reconfiguration of weapons, the aircraft can assume air defense, ground attack, and SEAD, sometimes on the same sortie.

Many of the airframes were getting a bit old for use. The plane hasn't been in production a decade, and as the backbone of Pilotmario Air Force operations for even longer, they have seen extensive use. It is impossible to find Pummelers with their original parts, and in some cases, are best described as a collection of parts in loose formation. And many pilots liked it that way. Each plane had a personality, and a history. The Pummeler has been flown by generations of Pilotmario Air Force pilots.

Not all Pummelers have been phased out, however. Air Force Reserve Pummeler Attack aircraft are to remain in service due to their much lower flight hours and the fact there is now a huge supply of spares. The Pilotmario Army still operates a pair of unarmed Pummeler Mk 1A as a chase-plane for testing unmanned aerial vehicles and helicopters. These Pummeler Mk 1A are the last of its kind, since all Mk 1 airframes were scrapped or converted to the Mk 2 standard. They also have the lowest flight hours of any Pummeler, and are practically new aircraft.

Newer-built Pummeler Attack Mk 2, all Mk 3, and all Mk 4 attack aircraft were sent to Rodmantown South Air Force Base in Paternia and stored in an aircraft boneyard situated on a dry lake bed. These aircraft are either to be refurbished and sold off, donated, or gutted for parts and scrapped.

Although it will be officially phased out, it will forever remain a symbol of Pilotmario military prowess. It will continue in service for years in other air arms.

"No sound brings hope in us as much as it strikes fear in the enemy than the sound of the Pummeler's engine."
    -anonymous Pilotmario Army officer

"When you realize how long the Pilotmario Air Force used the Pummeler, you must wonder whether Pilotmarian engineers are the laziest or the most brilliant in the world."
-Maj. Cleo Riga, Pilotmario Air Force
