HSV-25S Javelin with trailers

40.2k Typhoon03  4.7 years ago

Description:

The HSV-25S Javelin is a multirole infantry support truck for anti-tank and anti-personnel missions, including the defence of convoys and forward operating bases, as well as the support of ground troops. The Javelin also has an anti-aircraft capability and can be used against many types of shipping, from torpedo boats to destroyers.

The Javelin utilises the so-called "semi-nuclear" cannon technology, firing tungsten shells at low velocity and depleted uranium ammunition at higher speeds. This is the first time the weapon has been mounted on a ground unit, with previous vehicles such as the Earthquake ALS and HIK9E Pachy using a miniaturized version with much less stopping power. A spotlight is mounted on the gun mountings for low visibility operations and there is a secondary infra-red targeting system for night-ops.

The Javelin gun system can be operated remotely from inside the cabin or, in emergencies, be operated manually by a gun crew consisting of a gunner and a loader. The vehicle can carry all the equipment and personnel required to operate the gun in the field independently for up to four days, with food and water stored externally.

The vehicle has a crew of three, all seated in the main cabin. The driver-mech sits on the right-hand side with the loader/engineer seated alongside him. Behind them and facing sideways, the gunner has complete targeting control of the gun system through a touch-screen positioned alongside his seat. He controls the loading and arming of the system using the panel situated on his right and also has the ability to fire flares and smoke to conceal the Javelin's position.

The three-man cabin is well-armoured against small arms and can resist against blasts from rocket propelled grenades and light anti-tank missiles thanks to the ceramic armour plate which surrounds much of the crew compartment. The external access doors to the ammunition store are designed to blow off, dissipating a blast if the ammunition detonates. Every window is filled with 35mm of bulletproof glass and is heavily barred for extra strength and resistance to explosions. The vehicle's seats each have 65mm of armour plate to guard against shrapnel.

The fuel tank is self-sealing and protected by Chobham armour that runs the length of the gun platform, also guarding the rear wheels and hydraulics. The engine compartment is resistant to munitions up to the size of a light anti-tank missile and a spare engine can be carried on the gun platform in case the engine compartment is breached. A spare tire is also carried alongside the fuel tank and the engine produces enough horsepower to propel the HSV-25S to 90 mph on the road.

The HSV-25S has an asset protection role in support of Žaneta tank destroyers of the Saltwater Marine Corps. When used in this role the Javelin is often fitted with two trailers, carrying ammunition, supplies and spare parts for the Žaneta troop. One Javelin is usually assigned to a standard battery of four Žanetas and is used as a supply and troop defence vehicle.

The Javelin costs $900,000 per unit and is available for export to allies of the Saltwater Carrier Nation.
