Fairchild XC-120 Packplane

45.5k Sgtk  7.5 years ago

The Wiki: The Fairchild XC-120 Packplane was an American experimental transport aircraft first flown in 1950. It was developed from the company's C-119 Flying Boxcar, and was unique in the unconventional use of removable cargo pods that were attached below the fuselage, instead of possessing an internal cargo compartment. The pods normally had wheels, but I thought that was boring so mine are air-drop capable. Ag-1 to release the pod during flight and AG-2 for parachutes. Recommend 100% flaps for takeoff and 50%-60% during flight with pod attached. No flaps and minimal trim once pod is deployed. Let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements. As always, thank you for stopping by to look and enjoy your flight!!

Would it be possible to make this with a pod containing something like a small vehicle?

It is handy to settle it on a airport without a building like wright island north runway. Looks cool btw.

The pod separates smoooothly when dropped. I dropped it on a runway and when Ianded and rolled next to it I realized this plane needs a hook that secures the pod instead of a single-use detacher. :)
