In 1935 the zetaan Airforce had a need for a new modern recon aircraft, preferably with a way to defend itsself in case it got attacked

The first prototype flew in 1937 under the designation EX-C.9A, which instantly proved succesful, with the test pilot reportinf that it has great handling characteristics.

In 1938 many upgrades were given and it initially had an armament of 2 7.7mm mgs in the wings for the D-C.9B, this later was upped to 4 for the D-C.9C and D.

The main upgrade between these and the variant shown here is that 2 additional guns were added and the wings were given slots to inprove the AoA the plane could pull.

The D-C.9E as of now is the most nodern variant that flew from 1939 to 1940, however it quickly became clear it would need a new powerplant as it felt a little underpowered with the weight of the extra guns.
