Airbus A350-900 - TAM Linhas Aereas
About TAM Airlines (Now LATAM Airlines Brasil):
LATAM Airlines Brasil, formerly TAM Linhas Aéreas, is the Brazilian brand of LATAM Airlines Group operating international and domestic flights from hubs in Brasília, Fortaleza, and São Paulo. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC), between January and December 2023, LATAM had 37.8% of the domestic, and 18.2% of the international market share in terms of passenger-kilometers flown, making it the largest domestic and largest international airline in Brazil.
TAM Linhas Aéreas was Brazil's and Latin America's largest airline before the takeover by Chilean airline LAN Airlines. Its headquarters were in São Paulo, operating scheduled services to destinations within Brazil, as well as international flights to Europe and other parts of North and South America. Shares in the company were traded on the São Paulo Exchange (BM&F Bovespa) and New York Stock Exchange as "TAM". Prior to the merger with LAN, the company closed its capital, transferring its shares to LATAM Airlines Group. In August 2015, it was announced that the two airlines would fully rebrand as LATAM, with one livery to be applied on all aircraft by 2018. The airline withdrew from the Star Alliance and joined Oneworld, effective from March 31, 2014. The carrier left Oneworld on May 1, 2020.
The word "TAM" is an acronym for "Transportes Aéreos Marília", which dates back to the company's origins as a regional aviation company founded in Marília, in the state of São Paulo.

About the Airbus A350:
The Airbus A350 is a long-range, wide-body twin-engine airliner developed and produced by Airbus. The initial A350 design proposed in 2004, in response to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, would have been a development of the Airbus A330 with composite wings and new engines. Due to inadequate market support, Airbus switched in 2006 to a clean-sheet "XWB" (eXtra Wide Body) design, powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent XWB high bypass turbofan engines. The prototype first flew on 14 June 2013 from Toulouse, France. Type certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) was obtained in September 2014, followed by certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) two months later.
The A350 is the first Airbus aircraft largely made of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymers. The fuselage is designed around a nine-abreast economy cross-section, an increase from the eight-abreast A330/A340. It has a common type rating with the A330. The airliner has two variants: the A350-900 typically carries 300 to 350 passengers over a 15,000 kilometre (8,100 nmi; 9,300 mi) range, and has a 283 tonne (617,300 lb) maximum takeoff weight (MTOW); the longer A350-1000 accommodates 350 to 410 passengers and has a maximum range of 16,500 km (8,900 nmi; 10,300 mi) and a 322 tonne (710,000 lb) MTOW.
On 15 January 2015, the first A350-900 entered service with Qatar Airways, followed by the A350-1000 on 24 February 2018 with the same launch operator. As of November 2024, Singapore Airlines is the largest operator with 65 aircraft in its fleet, while Turkish Airlines is the largest customer with 110 aircraft on order. A total of 1,345 A350 family aircraft have been ordered and 628 delivered, of which 627 aircraft are in service with 38 operators. The global A350 fleet has completed more than 1.58 million flights on more than 1,240 routes, transporting more than 400 million passengers with one hull loss being an airport-safety–related accident. It succeeds the A340 and competes against Boeing's large long-haul twinjets, the Boeing 777, its future successor, the 777X, and the 787.

About PR-XTA:
PR-XTA was the first of 3 Airbus A350s to be delivered to TAM Airlines, and one of 13 to be in the LATAM Brasil fleet. When it was first delivered, TAM was actually the fourth airline to have been delivered an Airbus A350 (at 25/1/2016), behind Finnair (9/10/2015), Vietnam Airways (3/7/2015) and Qatar Airways (15/1/2015). This aircraft didn’t actually wear the LATAM livery in its life. It was labelled “First A350 of the Americas”, and was retired (arguably way too) early due to the Covid pandemic.
This specific aircraft had its first flight in 1/12/2015, is 9.1 years old, and was tested at Toulouse–Blagnac Airport (TLS/LFBO) with the test registration F-WZFS. It’s msn is 024.
The aircraft has currently been in service with the following airlines:
- TAM Linhas Aereas, from 16/12/2015 - 5/5/2016, with the registration PR-XTA
- It was labelled "Primeiro A350 XWB das Américas / The Americas' first A350 XWB" on both sides of the nose area from ??/1/2016.
- LATAM Airlines Brasil, from 5/5/2016 - 25/5/2020, with the registration PR-XTA
- It was stored at Victorville’s Southern California Logistics Airport (VCV/KVCV) from 30/9/2020 - 5/5/2023.
- Wilmington Trust Company, from 16/10/2020 - 17/11/2021, with the registration N8936W
- VMO Aircraft Leasing, from 17/11/2021 - 19/7/2022, with the registration N8936W
- Delta Airlines, since 19/7/2022, with the registration N568DZ
- It went into service with Delta at 3/9/2023.
N568DZ should still by flying international routes with Delta to this day.
