The Eden-class (Type-35e) frigate is designed to be a cheap, economical and versatile frigate, with the first fifteen ordered for the Parshain Navy. They are multirole guided missile frigates, capable of operations in both high and low intensity conflicts. They use many technologies incorporated into the higher-end Ashdown-class, but also use off-the-shelf technology in order to lower costs and maintenance.

Development

The Type-34 Ashdown-class was a frigate designed in 2033 as a replacement for the New Albany-class frigates of the Saltwater Navy. The new vessels were to be large and stealthy, with advanced radar in order to guard carrier groups and itself against advanced anti-ship missiles and submarines. However the ships were, for frigates, expensive and a ban on exports meant that allied nations could not purchase the new ships, prompting SMC Marine to commence work on a lower-cost ship for export.
The first Type-35es were ordered by the Parshain Navy and the first vessel was laid down soon afterwards. During sea trials the first vessel suffered a gearbox failure, delaying delivery by three months so that the problem could be fixed and the other ships modified on the slipway. These faults rectified, the first ship, at the time designated FFG(E)-1, performed excellently during her sea trials, working with the SWS Furious in a mock sea battle.
Thirty-eight ships of the class are so far planned. Each ship is projected to cost $490 million.

Design:

At just over 120m in length the Type-35e is slightly smaller than the Ashdown-class and features similar radar, reduced crew and weapons loadout, as well as a more conventional design and an off-the-shelf countermeasures suit. The radar system allows enemy aircraft to be tracked at range from any angle. The ASEA radar can track up to 150 targets at any one time and can engage nine at once.
The Eden-class is propelled by two 36,000hp gas turbines driving two shafts. They allow the ship to reach speeds of up to 27 knots. It can endure at sea for up to 46 days without resupply.
For anti-submarine operations, the Type-35e can be equipped with a single anti-submarine helicopter, as well as a rocket launcher and two torpedo launchers, each with four torpedoes. The Eden-class also carries two 12m RHIBs in two enclosed docks in the aft superstructure. The RHIBs can be replaced by midget submarines or drones if necessary, but the Eden-class also has two dedicated docks for such vehicles.
The Type-35e frigate has a large space behind the VLS tubes that permits modular mission packs to be fitted for a variety of different missions, including mine disposal, troop transport, operations as a tanker, operations as a hospital ship and operations as a dedicated air defence ship. All of the weapons systems apart from the Sea Ceptor launchers are of a modular design, meaning that customers can swap out the weaponry and sensors for alternatives of their choosing.
The crew has reduced from that of the Type-34 (150 men to 130) thanks to a simpler design and VLS launchers, as well as a reduced number of mechanical parts in the torpedo launchers.

Armament:

  • x1 105mm naval gun, rate of fire 25rpm;

  • x2 20mm Phoenix close in weapons systems, 3400rpm;

  • x1 multirole rocket launcher, mix of land-attack and anti-submarine rockets;

  • x16 VLS cells with Sea Ceptor surface to air missiles;

  • x24 VLS cells with Perseus cruise missiles;

  • x8 VLS cells with SPEAR 3 cruise missiles;

  • x8 homing torpedoes;

  • Sampson-Plus multipurpose radar;

  • QuadView search radar;

  • Multiple IRST systems;

  • Navigational radar;

  • Satcom, Datalink, radio, GPS and other antennas;

    @TheFantasticTyphoon You should try to build the FFGX next. The US has selected it for its next guided destroyers. It will have the general shape of the FFGX but the armament will be all US-made weapons. Heres some more details
