At the end of the One Year War, the "RX-78 Series" project headquarters reported to the E.F.F. 's General Staff headquarters for the success of Lt. Amuro Ray's RX-78-2 Gundam and aroused the attention of the joint Chiefs of Staff to the NT and the development of an NT-specific machine. In fact, development of the aircraft began as early as August 0079 (before the Gundam II was operational) at the Augusta base in North America.
