M103A2 Heavy Tank
Update Jan 10, 2023
Now you can do skydiving with M103! (Working cargo plane with working vehicle locking mechanism, comes with M113 also)
https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/y5aT80/Working-cargo-plane-w-tanks-WIP-unfinished-Mighty-Hauler-STOL-airlifter
1:1 scale loose (looser) replica of M103A2 heavy tank. Not a strict replica, but built based on plan-view drawings, and dimensions, top speed, weight, etc. are roughly simulated so it should be pretty accurate. Built with Wernster's older damage model.
This is also a tech-demo for my possibly new resizable wheel based tread that actually moves up and down, all without mods! (But with high performance cost)
I built the model of this tank from scratch, but I borrowed some components/ideas from Wernster's 13-CM tank (such as the main gun rotator funky, traverse mechanism, etc.), and overall I owe a lot to the builds and ideas Wernster has shared on this site. Big thanks for the inspirations and their (your, if you are reading this) contribution to the community.
Feel free to use the tracks for your build (credit would be much appreciated)
Edit: Rather un-unexpectedly (ie as expected), this wasn't the first vehicle to use this style of tracks. Checkout AFV builds by Leehopard (such as this one (link). They had this/similar style of tracks, and were made some years ago. I don't get how this technique didn't become a common place, especially for mobile players, but now I know it existed, and there are more.
Features:
-1:1 scale model built from plan-view drawings (looser replica w/relatively lower part count)
-Resizable wheel based "treads" (tracks) that's shaped like an actual tread, with working suspensions for both the tracks and road wheels
-Damage model for vehicle combat based on Wernster's concept
-Gun stabilizer and auto-tracking AA machine gun (based on Aweyer26's auto-aiming turret FT)
-Armament-
1x M58 120mm Gun
1x .30-cal coaxial machine gun
1x .50-cal Anti-Air machine gun (remotely controlled)

This tank should work in both Low and Medium physics settings. It took me some good hours to make the tire treads work on low physics, so there better be no major issues.

Comment (#2)
I came up with the idea of using disfigured wheels as treads (& more wheels as road wheels) when I was playing with Wernster's 13-CM tank. I had played around with this idea before, but it didn't get very far since I couldn't solve the issue with weird hitbox/collider of the strangely shaped wheels (model and collision did not match).
I initially thought of posting the modified Wernster tank as a tech demonstrator, but I kinda wanted to build and have my own tank, so I decided to build one and incorporate this tech in it. Chose M103 as it was/is probably my favorite tank in terms of aesthetics. Turret texture looks kinda rough due to the way I constructed it and how the game handles the shadow, but I think it looks fine enough (kinda looks kinda like Baki characters and weird, though)
(Bit of a teaser)

@UnidentifiedStapler
Yeah, the hitbox thing happens when you change the Z scale of the wheel part. Enabling the built-in suspension fixes it (as long as the suspension values aren't too low). Drawback is that... you have to enable the built-in suspension.
ken how do you scale the wheels without the hitbox scale going off?
This tank is so cool and realistic. Besides, it doesn't needs any Mods
Man this tank is so sexy to look at with only 129 parts
Dayyum A Masterpiece with 129 Parts!??
@SILVERPANZER
Tank yes, tank!
@Kendog84 oh OK thank you for the information.
@Smeagleandpiss2
It's on hold now, I'm working on other stuff + some important sub systems that I need for the cargo plane. Can't tell you when it's gonna be done, but you can know I haven't abandoned it:)
Hey BTW when will you post the LC-166 Mighty Hauler cargo jet?
Hey Ken, I'm building a tank with your track design, first of all, thanks so much for the design! It works like a charm in mobile, but I found a little problem in my tank. When I spawned, about something like a quarter or 4/5 of the bottom of the track is submerged to the ground, I wonder why? Do you know the cause?
Oh and I also used mostly your track configuration, I'm not exactly sure what effects does all the tire stuff results in so I'm here asking questions to you, sorry if I'm bothering you. Thanks
Edit: i found it! So it's actually the gear scale huh.
@Kendog84 actually i try to recreate the wheels using your settings lmao...kinda work

Kinda
@SimplyWorking
Sorry, totally forgot to respond... but anyway, yeah, adapting this can be a pain in the back. What you'd want to do is to adjust the traction settings in the part property editor in xml, but you also have to change the mass of the wheels and also suspension settings for it to work well enough. (You need to increase mass if there's more weight load on each wheel, especially if you wanna make it low physics proof)
I haven't figured out just what exactly affects what myself, but I'll probably create a, more easily useable track/chassis for different weight classes at point.
@rexzion
Thx, more to come (in the future)
tracks are very c
Try to use this track on my T-44, boi I stay on this game straight 8 hours 💀
@spectre118
Try re-downloading the tank, I checked with a fresh download and it worked on my end, so if that doesn't fix it, it might be something other than the build that's causing it to not work.
@Kendog84 I’ve tried that
@spectre118
It's assigned to roll
Turret won’t traverse
@rimiha
Thank you!
@TRD
Thanks!
most useful tank i ever played, 100/10
Amazing.
