Lockheed XB-221

Auto Credit Based on WinsWings's Seaplane Challenge 2/2024 (CLOSED)

This is my entry to the SeaPlane challenge.

Description

The XB-221 is a Mach-3 supersonic light (relatively) bomber designed to be operated on water in case of the unavailability of traditional land based airfields.

The most distinctive feature of the XB-221 is its retractable float system, a solution to aerodynamic disadvantages caused by floats.

During the cold war, the XB-221, later operated and redesignated as the B-221 by the US Navy, was deployed in numerous reconnaissance missions and served as a test bed for NASA.

Flight Characteristic

Flies like a brick, but fast and quite smoothly.

Sea Level: Mach 1.2 (~1500km/h)

At Altitude (25000m+): Mach 3 + (4000km/h +)

It will reach Mach 3, but don't expect it to accelerate like a X-15 or something

GForce: Around 3~6Gs depending on speed.

Take off - Deploy full flaps and pull up at around 400km/h.

Landing - Retract Airbrakes and deploy full flaps before 400km/h. Touch down at 300km/h.

Ejection

Warning: Pitch Down before launch to avoid collision with aircraft!

The XB-221 features a ejection capsule for high-speed/altitude use. (Requires some balls to use it at low altitude)
The ejection capsule is accelerated by a rocket motor from the start, followed by a deployment of 3 chutes.

Controls

AG1 - Open/Close Bomb Bay Doors
AG2 -
AG3 -
AG4 -
AG5 -
AG6 - Airbrakes
AG7 - Drogue Chute
AG8 - Open/Close Canopy
Landing Gear - Float/Skid
VTOL - Flaps
Trim - Trim
Eject (Weapons: Air-to-Ground) - Eject

Inspired by: Leduc 0.22, X-15, QuiteInactiveWhiteBread's SP-D5 etc.

Enjoy!
