Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina
[Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina]
Wikipedia
The Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina is a seaplane operated by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army Air Forces, and other Allied forces beginning in the 1930s.
In the 1930s, as tensions with Japan in the Pacific region increased, the U.S. Navy developed seaplanes. This was because seaplanes, which did not require runways, were suitable for operation over seas such as those in the Pacific region. Aircraft capable of flying long distances, bombing, and patrolling were required.
The U.S. Navy contracted Consolidated, Martin, and Douglas to build competing prototypes. Consolidated and Douglas responded and built prototypes, and in 1936, the Navy finally adopted Consolidated's XP3Y. The aircraft was adopted as a patrol bomber, and its name was changed to the new PBY.
The PBY had a distinctive parasol wing on a strut extending from the fuselage. The wings were powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engines. Both ends of the wings could be folded to function as water floats. It had a swivel turret in the nose and blister-type gunner positions on either side of the rear fuselage.
Starting with the PBY-5A, it also had a front-wheeled, retractable landing gear, making it an amphibious aircraft.
During World War II, the PBY flew a variety of missions, including anti-submarine patrols, bombing, torpedo attack, and rescue. In the Pacific War, the PBYs used their range to their advantage in patrol missions. During the Battle of Midway, it was PBYs that first spotted the carrier task force of the Imperial Japanese Navy. PBYs equipped with radar also conducted night attacks.
PBYs were also employed by the U.S. Army Air Corps, lent to the British and Soviet Union, operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force and Sweden, and after the war by the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force. Some aircraft were sold to the private sector and operated by commercial airlines.
Although the PBY was slow and not a stylish airplane, it was used for a variety of purposes because of its ease of handling, was loved, and remained in service for a long time.

[About the work]
The cockpit is roughly reproduced.
I have used PlanariaLab's "SP Label Converter" to create Roundel. Thank you very much.
I have not verified this because I do not have Simple Planes VR. Sorry.

Great bomber! Btw, do you know to attack the ww2 fleet and survive?
Just wondering so are you possibly going to create more bombers?
@Zaineman look amazing builds
"Zeroes! 10 O'clock!"

Congratulations, I have posted all the prizes yesterday!
Excellent work
TAKE OUT THOSE FUCKING PT BOATS

@AntonWings yes I will also I’ll upvote this aircraft for you thanks also I love your aircraft and work the planes you make are awsome :)
@Hankthetank20292
No problem :)
Please mention that you are using my work.
@AntonWings Anton can I take a picture or screenshot of this in game and use it to put on my cover of my challenge?
@AntonWings
Yeah, I replaced the fuselage sights on your Spitfire Mk.IA when I converted it into the Mk.VB
@ShinyGemsBro
I had never used that technique...I will try it next time. Thanks for the advice :)
WARTHUNDER
Have you tried using text decals as gunsights? They save up alot on partcount and look alot better than fuselage ones imo
@AntonWings thanks 👍
@WinsWings
Thank you for your comment, upvote and spotlight to me.
I hope you like it :)
@Kaveman
Thanks for the comment.
This is just my own opinion...creating a high-detail piece with many parts takes a lot of work. But creating a better looking piece with fewer parts requires additional thought and trial and error. And I think that is one of the best parts of creating builds in this game.
@screechy
Thanks for the comment. Well, I don't know, I haven't tested it in VR, but I made it so that you can enjoy flying it from the cockpit viewpoint. Have fun!
