the workhorse of the allied war effort, and the flying coffin

history

The c-47 skytrain is the cargo variant of the DC-3, and used extensively by the allies for cargo transport as well as for parachute drops, and glider towing. Armed with two powerful 1200hp engines, this massive plane is able to get to a top speed of 230mph.

With its first flights in 1942, the waco CG-4A is the most widely used US cargo/troop carrying glider. With a top speed of 149mph, and with almost 14,000 built, it definitely was an important peice in the allied plan.

In homage of those who dropped in these wooden aircraft, in all theaters, and times in the war, and for those who lost their lives in the landings, and combat, that followed.

controls

Normal flight controls
VTOL down- flaps
Ag1- drop glider, enables glider control, disables C-47 controls

Recommended Flight Operation (must read)

TAKEOFF
1. Set trim and flaps to around half
2. Add full power
3. Let it takeoff, speed should be around 165mph
4. The C-47 will go up first and then the CG-4A,
5. put full trim and take off flaps
6. Put gear up

In Flight + glider operation
- make sure to use small inputs on the stick, your towing another plane, and it doesn't have as much control as you do, keep it in mind
- the aircraft, with autopilot on, doesn't have enough speed to keep it level, even with full trim
- when you release the glider the glider will shoot upwards, dont put any inputs in just release trim, and let it settle out, recommend not going full power when about to release glider
(What happens when your at full power, release glider, and try to counter act the pitch up)
Was going to be a gif, couldn't get it to work

  • once the glider is released it is a dream to fly, make sure your at a small downward point, but other than that you shouldn't have any problems

Landing
1. Land how you normally would, it can handle it, just keep in mind that stall speed is around 90mph, make sure to do soft landings. (Dont go full brakes especially for the glider)

builders note: these are both very fun aircraft to fly, and each have different styles of flying, and i love how they both came out! This is for the glider challenge, and well is probably going to be the only ww2 glider in the challenge, everyone went modern. Enjoy!
