(Alternative Timeline) During the Soviet-Ukranian conflict in 2028 Soviet Russia modernized the BT-272 Moderna 2, the Moderna 3 was born which featured a new eco-gasoline engine, a new M-65 130mm smoothbore gun, which was capable of shooting an APFSDS round with a speed of 2km/s.
However this version had some flaws, as the engine was using a synthetic fuel type which was very flamable, there was a chance that the tank
blew up on the way to the battlefield because the engine development was rushed and the ignition system was cheap.
The tank still used the same autoloader as the T-72 developed back in the day and it was highly obsolete. Moderna 3 suprisingly saw the removal of the 2nd generation thermal module, and instead it got a worse night vision module than the previous models, and didn't get a thermal imaging module. Moderna-3 was not fitted with a gun stabilizer because the gun was too heavy.

During the war the BT-272 Moderna 3 was captured several times, and was modernized by the Ukranian Rebel Army, and the BT-272 Moderna 4 was born.
The Moderna 4 Version fixed the flaws of the Moderna 3 by using a gas turbine engine which had a higher horsepower and power to weight ratio. The Moderna 4 also featured a modified M-65 gun which allowed the tank to shoot AMRs (Advanced Multipurpose Round). The tank also got a better auto loading system, generation 3 thermals, and Shtora-1 Infrared protection was replaced by the more modern Shtora-2UR.
The Moderna 4 also featured the APS (Active Protection System) from the destroyed prototype T-80UM2. The tank was also upgraded with Nozh explosive reactive armor. The gun weight was reduced and it allowed the vehicle to be fitted with a gun stabilizer, the first BT-272 model to be fitted with one.

After the Soviet-Ukranian war Ukraine gained it's independence in 2029 and the USSR collapsed.
