Background

The Manta-class Ekranoplan is a small ground effect vehicle designed by Tadei Technologies in 1990 and is primarily used by the Federation Navy. It flies using the lift generated by the ground effect of its large wings when within about four metres above the surface of the water. Equipped for anti-surface warfare, it carries the Excalibur Anti-ship missile. Two missile launchers are mounted in a pair on the dorsal surface of the fuselage targeting systems mounted on the tail. Able to reach speeds of 450-550mph and flying very close to the surface of the water, the Manta is a very difficult to detect vessel. Manta with its wider wings and pitch control allow it to fare better in adverse conditions, allowing it to "leap" moderate distances above waves.
