[History]

MB-II Stromberg is a prototype based on the G-II transport. This aircraft embodies the principles of the universal military aircraft concept. It is capable of attacking large and stationary targets with long-range cruise missiles, destroying small ground targets with ATGMs, can defend against fighters and intercept large aircraft using Interceptor missiles.

The Stromberg carries a powerful radar capable of detecting targets at long range and guiding up to 48 missiles simultaneously. The MB-II is capable of vertical takeoff and landing, making it possible to base it on aircraft carriers and unpaved airfields.

The Stromberg was produced as a single prototype, after which the US authorities considered its capabilities to be excessive and the aircraft itself too expensive. Nevertheless, after tests were completed, the only prototype was incorporated into the US Air Force and participated in Operation Desert Storm as part of the SP-1 experimental unit based on the aircraft carrier USS Beast, where it demonstrated impressive effectiveness as a missile carrier and AWACS aircraft. In one of the combat missions it was shot down by the Iraqi S-300 and fell into the water before reaching the aircraft carrier.
