The M209A1 Recoilless Rifle Carrier, formally the 106mm Self-Propelled Recoilless Rifle M209A1, is a variant of the M108A1 Jeep modified to carry a 106mm M30 recoilless rifle. Conceived as an anti-tank vehicle, the potent 106mm recoilless rifle was more than up to the task. The standard Paternian HEAT shell could penetrate over 400mm of rolled homogenous armor. Later HEAT shells developed by Prussia and Berus could penetrate over 700mm of armor. Standard HE shells, HEP/HESH, and APERS flechette rounds were also developed for the weapon.
Atop is an M7C .50 caliber spotting rifle. This employs a special tracer cartridge designed to mimic the ballistics of the 106mm shell, and is used for walking in fire before firing main gun rounds. A fixed 4x optical sight is provided.
The system has since been phased out in favor of the TOW, although it remained in service in Alaska and the Paternian Pacific Territories due to the limitations of wire-guided missiles over bodies of water and early electronics in cold temperatures.
Like many Paternian weapons, they were widely exported and remains in service in other nations. The vehicle was employed as late as the African War. While ineffective against more modern main battle tanks, they were still useful against lightly-armored or unarmored targets.
