Rostov F-51 Angelfire
Background
Federation
The Rostov F-51 Angelfire is a Federation twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter aircraft designed by Rostov Heavy Industries. Designed in 1965 to meet the need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. The Eagle first flew in May 1970, and entered service in 1974. The F-51 is among the most successful modern fighters in the Federation, with a nearly spotless combat record.
The F-51 was originally envisioned to be a pure air-superiority aircraft with an included a mostly unused secondary ground-attack capability. The aircraft design proved flexible enough that an all-weather strike derivative, the F-51D, an improved and enhanced version which was later developed, entered service in 1985.
