[LHI] Atlanta class '43

22.0k TemporaryReplacement  10 days ago
Auto Credit Based on Blyatnov's USS Atlanta

[UPDATE, FIXED REAR GUNS HAVING NO PROPER RELOAD IN BARRAGE FIRE MODE, sorry for not doing more testing gamers]

  • The ship that started the whole defensive thing for me, now finally being introduced along with:
    [Quick changelog for LHI]
-autocannon damage overhaul, now uses same system as DB. 40mm+ damage remains same
-Flak burst size decreased, 5in38 specifically is now 1.5 instead of 2.5 (On the explosion scale)
-How larger guns operate beyond autocannon ranges has been tweaked
-Autocannon rounds now have whitish-yellow instead of red tracers cause it was weird
-Larger guns now have less comically long tracers
  • These changes will be present on future builds, but past ones will remain the same for now (not huge changes so it doesn’t matter much, still, sorry for inconsistency lmao)

Original build (by Blyatnov) here

Swarm variant (multiple spawnable at once) here

((Compatible with all other escort warships, as well as all defensive series builds as long as the escorts are spawned in first, in short intervals between spawns to allow the targeting square to go away))

  • The Defensive warships series hopes to make killing AI warship targets with aircraft 10x harder. (and fun) All ships have a semi-realistic AA complement, with guns that all have semi-realistic ranges, muzzle velocities, firing arcs, and etc.
  • (Wiki)
The Atlanta-class cruisers were eight United States Navy light cruisers which were designed as fast scout cruisers, flotilla leaders, or destroyer leaders, but which proved to be effective anti-aircraft cruisers during World War II. They were also known as the Atlanta-Oakland class. The Atlanta class originally had 16 x 5-inch (127 mm)/38 caliber guns in eight two-gun turrets, arranged with three superfiring turrets forward, three more superfiring aft and two waist mounts, one port and one starboard, giving the first four Atlanta-class cruisers the heaviest anti-aircraft armament of any cruiser of World War II. The last four ships of the class, starting with Oakland, had a slightly revised armament with a reduced main gun battery - the waist turrets being deleted - as they were further optimized for anti-aircraft fire in light of war experience.)

Functional armament

(Spawn as AI in aggressive mode, guns will activate and deactivate depending on if they are in arc/range. It will start maneuvering once you get within 5km of it)

- 8x Dual 5in/38 mount
[Guns fire in a barrage between 16km and 7.16km, then fire individually along with the smaller guns once they get into range]

Max range: 16000m
Min range: 1000m
Projectile velocity: 792m/s

- 1x Quad Bofors 40mm mount
Max range: 7160m
Min range: 0m
Projectile velocity: 850m/s

- 3x Twin Bofors 40mm mount
Max range: 7160m
Min range: 0m
Projectile velocity: 850m/s

- 15x Single Oerlikon 20mm mount
Max range: 6000m
Min range: 0m
Projectile velocity: 600m/s

Notes

  • It's almost 3AM at the time of writing this and instead of continuing to standardize everything I gave myself more work and decided to overhaul a few things. Pls help.
  • Anyways the cruiser literally built with AA work in mind does the job pretty well shockingly, so be careful. 5inch spam is not fun on the receiving side
  • The layout is loosely based off of USS San Diego, but I decided to just name it a generic Atlanta in order to avoid both giving it a grand total of 3 1.1inch guns for USS Atlanta, and an actual paint scheme for USS San Diego at the same time!
(Although there is a pic of San Diego looking exactly like this in 43 or 44 so there was no point in typing this)
  • Here’s the original iteration of this, for if you just want to goof around a bit. You’ll see what I mean)

Enjoy getting obliterated!

@llDeadboyll luckily for you I’ve tested this before lol.
Been trying to atleast get a functioning surface combatant prototype out but I’ve been kinda busy lately. It’s something I’d like to return to soon though

@TemporaryReplacement could you do a code for leading torpedo tubes? Would be neat. Also, I just recently found out that Torpedos normally travel at 45 m/s. (if you need that)
