M50 Quadmount

VTOL and Trim to lay gun. Throttle emplaces gun. (1) activates mount. The M50 Quadmount is a Paternian 12.7mm anti-aircraft system developed during the Offensive Stage of the Paternian Civil War. During this time, the Paternian forces have secured the West, Midwest, and Northeast United States alongside all of Mexico. With a massive powerhouse under their command, they sought to modernize and standardize equipment. Low-altitude air defense was seen as an issue, and the most suitable widely-available weapon was the 12.7 M2HB Browning heavy machine gun. However, the only design, the M2, had a rate of fire too low to be effective. The solution was to create multiple gun mounts. Twin mounts proved successful, but more firepower was desired. Thus, a quad mount based off the twin mount was employed. The weapon proved incredibly deadly against low-flying aircraft. The strengthening Paternian air defenses, combined with an increasingly powerful Paternian Air Force and a depleted Southern Confederate States Air Force meant that by 1944, the Paternian Air Force held virtual air supremacy. With no air targets to bring down, the Quadmount was employed for infantry support, where it was highly valued for its sheer firepower and high elevation, allowing them to engage targets sitting above the elevation of heavier weapons. It would see use in this capacity unitl the 1960's. As an anti-aircraft system, it was replaced by mobile 40mm gun systems.
