F216 Samsun (fictional) was a destroyer of 216 class, primarily for the role of anti-aircraft screening for carrier battle groups with her numerous AA guns. In the "Maywar raid", the class proved to be a very capable multipurpose platform. On the night of 5–6 July 1943, the commander led another troop transport run to Wright Islands. In the Battle of Snowstone Islands, she was sunk by gunfire from a SSN cruiser-destroyer group, 5 miles (8.0 km) east of Snowstone Islands. All 290 people including the captain, the crew, and the command of 3rd Destroyer squadron were killed.
