Karyan Battlecruiser Strelitzia(1938)
Design 128-x cruisers
In the early 20s, the Karyan Union started plans to decommission their old battlecruisers and heavy cruisers, while simultaneously looking to acquire new and more advanced ships. In 1925, the Karyan Fleet officers were officially allowed to send design requirements to the Bureau of Ship Design(BSD).
Upon receiving the new requirements, the BoSD immediately started work, as they have prepared for the occasion as the Fleets plans to decommission their old ships despite being secretive, was known by people who are in places. The BSD came up with 3 initial designs. One focused on armor, with 38cm(15in) worth of armor but with a pedestrian 9 30.5cm(12in) gun in three twin turrets. In contrast, the second design had a mighty 6 50cm(20in) gun in 2 gun turrets but only having 22cm(9in) of armor belt. The third design has a 36cm(14in) belt and barbette, whilst having 9 36cm(14in) guns in 3-gun turrets. All hulls have the same speed and endurance.
Original (Ichigo)Strawberry class cruisers
The Karyan Union produced a total of 13 hulls. However, the first 6 hulls were the original designed ships. Named after plants, the ships were launched in this order.
Ichigo subclass
1. Ichigo/Fragaria(unofficial rename) -1931
2.Delphinium -1931
3.Hyacinth -1932
Jasminum subclass
4.Jasminum - 1933
5.Yamazakura -1933
6. Chlorophytum -1934
The first 2 subclasses saw very active but very quiet early services. Their heavy armament, long range, high speed and strong armor, whilst being able to have flagship facilities, meant that the class would be able of massacring unescorted convoys, while simultaneously being a threat to enemy battleships and battlecruisers. The relatively low price and the status symbol of having a imposing fleet of highly capable ships was not lost on the Karyan admiralty.
However when the keel of Chlorophytum was laid in 1932, the admiralty announced that the construction programs were paused because of logistical reasons, the Karyan Self Defence Fleet High Command (KSDFHC), paused the construction program in order to assess the first two subclasses and allow the infrastructure development to keep up.
The second set.
In early 1935, the orders went again. This time, the Doctrine had changed, fast battleships were the name of the game. The BoSD was instructed to convert the battlecruiser hull into a fast battleship. Fortunately for the Karyans, there was space for the extra machinery, as the Akryan Union has managed to develop high pressure boilers. The new boilers manage to produce the same amount of power for significantly less volume, while burning less fuel and being more reliable. The new subclass received a new superstructure design, a revised and superior armor scheme, a new armament of the lethal 42cm(16.5in)L50 guns, significantly better AA suite, new sensors and new radars.
The ships were launched and commissioned in this order. Also the new subclass has a new naming convention.
