Bristol Blenheim Mk 1

53.2k Tang0five  6.8 years ago

As promised, the Bristol Blenheim Mk1. First flown in 1935 the light bomber Blenheim was faster than most fighters at the time and was the first in many fields. All metal stressed skin construction, retractable gear, flaps and variable pitch propellers. (This is kind of a first for me too as I have done the wings rather differently from normal in response to some positive critique) Speed was seen as it’s main defence and hence why there was a single gun for defence. Like most mid 30s designs the Blenheims speed was quickly superseded up by the rapid progress made in fighter design and by the start of the war the Blenheim suffered some heavy losses in daylight raids. 90%+ losses were not a rarity sadly. Despite this the Blenheim was a successful design that had a wide range of roles and were made under licence by Canada, Yugoslavia and Finland. Destructions are VTOL down+1 for bomb bay doors, 2 activates gun turret and is movable with VTOL. Handlings a little nose heavy and I recommend hauling back on the stick until airborne to avoid doing doughnuts on the runway (never could find the cause for that sorry). Trim is required and you’ll need slightly less when you loose the mighty 2x boom25s! All the best for 2018 guys!

Most helpful and thank you @RamboJutter but can only build on iOS entanglements so can’t use any of these wonderful things. I know, I live in the dark ages........!

@Tang0five ah k, I use overload mod. It give you two options on hinges -1 and 1 being up and down, change the right one to 0 and your sorted.

Second plane I have ever downloaded, very nice to look at and flies realistically (note to self, water take off doesn't work :) ). Do you know the flaps also go up?

Well I’ll definitely try that @EternalDarkness does that improve stability/lift?

On slow and heavy planes like this one, use Flat bottom airfoils on main wings, and symmetric only on tail.

Cheers @EternalDarkness always wanted to do a Blenheim but thought it would have been a common build on sp - turns out there’s not many!
