One of the most potent weapons in America's Cup history.

After a shocking 34th America's Cup in 2013 for Emirates Team New Zealand, (losing 9-8 when they were ahead of Oracle Team USA 8-1), Bermuda 2017 would be time for some payback, using one of the most potent weapons in America's Cup history.

Developed in secrecy — unlike their AC72 catamaran — ETNZ's AC50, christened Aotearoa, included key innovations, such the 'XBox' used to trim the sails (instead of rope), and cyclors to provide power, replacing the usual grinders.

They may have finished runners up in the in the Round Robins, but not even a pitchpole in the challenger playoff semifinals could stop their momentum, winning the Louis Vuitton Cup, and becoming the challenger for the America's Cup

The result was an ETNZ walkover, beating defenders Oracle 7-1. But they didn't stop there. The kiwis won the 'Auld Mug' again in Auckland 2021 and Barcelona 2024, becoming the first team in modern America's Cup history to win a hat trick.

Controls

  • AG1: Left Foil
  • AG2: Right Foil
  • VTOL: Turn
  • Trim: Ride Height (Be careful using this)
  • Throttle: Wingsail Deployment Angle
  • Wind speeds: 16–32 km/h (best 24 km/h) (10–20 mph (best 15 mph))
  • Maximum Upwind Sailing Angle: 45°
  • Minimum Foiling Speed : c. 35 km/h
  • Top Speed: 100+ km/h

Tips

  • If the wind is coming from your left, lower the right foil (Exceptions are allowed).
  • If the wind is coming from your right, lower the left foil (Exceptions are allowed).
  • Lower both foils when turning. They also stop the boat from drifting too much, and raise the minimum foiling speed (which can be useful if you don't want to foil).
  • Don't completely deploy the wingsail if you want to go fast, 10–25% Throttle works best. High Throttle values and both foils lowered are best for slow(er) sailing.
  • You will most likely need to constantly adjust the steering to keep moving in a straight line.
  • If you need to start moving without wind, turn left, right, left, etc, repetitively.

For the wings in the sails that let this sail upwind, and I think where I got the idea of making this.
