My take on Winswings' seaplane Redesign Challenge: Starting with the 1930's Junkers A-50 two-person sports plane, the "Zentralschwimmer Amphibium -Zwei Motoren" ( za/2m) version is a seaplane with a central float and its single front engine replaced by two smaller pusher ones. And to make the transformation complete, I also added a retractable landing gear for standard runways and for rolling onto beaches (Try it) I imagine the final result as something of a 1930's small runabout, jungle air taxi or seaplane trainer for 1930's airline pilots.
Flying: it is a 1930's sports plane so there are no flaps or other fancy gimmicks. Just line up on the beach or runway and push throttle. She flies without vices just as long as you remember she doesn't like rough landings, so just let her float down by her own accord and keep the nose up.
Instead of flaps and gizmos I did add two virtual cockpits, though. As long as you don't mind that, like with the original Junkers A-50 the instrumentation is rather spartan.
Takeoff is 80-90 mph, cruising at 110-120. On water takeoff, you might have to wiggle the plane a bit to unstick, but otherwise, just pull the Trim back and she rises by herself. (You can fly the aircraft on trim alone)
Also remember that when starting from water it pays to raise the landing gear prior to takeoff
And in case you wondered
I started this build by making a model of the original Junkers A-50, then changed the nose and inner wings to accommodate the floats and two engines. Still the outer wing panels and tail are still true-to-scale Junkers. So are the rather cramped period cockpits
As I have already built half of the parts, I will follow up on this build by posting the original A-50, the first two-engine landplane version and a twin float seaplane version. So stay tuned.
The A-50 za/2m is a sports plane, so it doesn't come with an arrester hook. Still due to its landing speed of only 80 mph, I did manage to land on the deck of USS Beast* a couple of times and subsequently take off again.
One last detail: when painting I lined up the main and accent colors on the custom palette with those on the other palettes, so you can change the plane's livery on the fly by just selecting the paintbrush options and browsing through the available palettes. Other than the standard 'Junkers metal' paint scheme in the custom palette my favorites are the "Red and White" , "Monochrome" and "Orange Black paint schemes.

Congrats upon the challenge. I will post the spotlights soon (in 1-2 day), currently I ran out of spotlight power.
Uea, one tries. And sometimes one gets it right. Too bad I couldn't get the typical Junkers corrugated metal look.
