AVRO 504K
INTRODUCING THE...
AVRO TYPE 504K
-By, PlanesOfOld-
1193 PARTS - TOTAL BUILD TIME 87hrs - FINALLY DONE!
: DISCLAIMER : Not intended for mobile use!
!!VERY IMPORTANT FLYING GUIDE!!
-To make controlling the realistic rotary engine 'easier'-
- Go into options and set
LandingGear
toCapsLock
. - Be gentle...
- Give up hope of an efficient throttle system, this is a monosoupape rotary it has NO throttle, a total loss oil system and likes to spit boiling castor oil at your face!
-Controlling the engine-
VTOL
Is your fuel mix adjuster, it acts as a weak form of throttle and is used mainly for adjusting cruise speed.LandingGear
Is your blip-switch It is your most effective form of throttle, it turns the engine on and off and should mainly be used on landing.
-Takeoff Procedure-
VTOL
Should be left in the middle.LandingGear
Should be activated to start the engine.ActivationGroup: 8
Should be De-Activated to stop the engine spinning around weirdly.
-In Flight-
VTOL
Can be adjusted for preferred cruise speed.- The 504K Is adequately agile although
Roll
is rather slow (slow roll was a trend at the time) - It is not recommended to go inverted below 1000ft
-Landing Procedure-
- Land preferably on a flat grassy area.
- Approach: Shallow and low.
- To lose speed: Blip the engine by repeatedly tapping
CapsLock
. - You can't mess it up unless you land upside-down.
-COMBAT-
- NO
-THIS BUILD-
First of all, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
This is the second aeroplane in my !NEW! WWI series.
It took 87hrs to build and test (I like to change things around a lot)
It has 1193 parts!
And its a heck of a lot better than the one I made 2 years ago (link in comments)!
-FEATURES-
- A replica 9 cylinder Clerget 9B rotary engine.
- Engine controls that are as realistic as I could get.
- Some fiddly dials that were very annoying to make.
- A BRASS MAGNETO SWITCH!
- Nice rudder controls (a rarity)
- Landing skids and wing hoops so even the WORST pilot can land!
- NO GUNS PACIFIST PLANE!
- MANY infuriating to make but pretty, WIRES!
-HISTORY-
-Design-

504B (RNAS variant with a larger rudder)
504C (single seat anti-zeppelin fighter for RNAS)
504D (single seat anti-zeppelin fighter for RFC)
504E (100HP Gnome engine)
504F (70HP Rolls Royce Hawk in line engine)
504G (80HP Gnome engine)
504H (Used for catapult launch trials)
504J (Early trainer variant)
504K (This model)
504K mk II (This model, different undercarriage)
504M (Three seat cabin variant)
504N (Postwar trainer variant)
504O (Floatplane version of 504N)
504P (Unbuilt 504N with side by side seating)
504Q (Another three seat cabin version)
504R (Redesigned trainer with lighter structure)
504S (License built in Japan by Nakajima)

-WWI service-
Small numbers were ordered prior to the outbreak of war, and in 1914 these aircraft were taken to France when the war started.
The 504 holds the embarrassing title of 'First British aeroplane shot down by the Germans.'
Despite this it was a successful reconnaissance and light bomber aircraft.
On the 22nd of August 1914 a flight of four 504's successfully (but with one loss) bombed the zeppelin plant at Friedrichshafen (god knows how that is pronounced)
Soon after it became obsolete and was then used as a trainer (a job it exceled at).
In the winter of 1917/18 trainer variants were converted to night fighters in order to shoot down zeppelins, Armament was provided by a wing mounted Lewis gun.
At the end of the war 226 of the 274 converted AVRO 504's were still being used as home defense fighters.
After the war production numbered 8,340 making it the most produced aircraft of the war.
504's were used as main trainers for the RAF until 1934!
They were very popular for barnstorming and civil use.
Firsts:
First British aircraft to strafe troops on the ground, First to make a bombing raid over Germany, First to be shot down by AA-Fire
When production stopped in 1932 over 10,000 had been made.
Of these 10,000 only 8 originals survive,
Of these 8 only 2 fly and I am lucky enough to live half an hour away from one of them.
ENJOY! :D
IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED IF YOU LEAVE A COMMENT!

@Grandmother Thanks
god i laughed so hard at the combat section
Very complicated control procedure and historically accurate...I like it!!
Merry (late) Christmas
The hoops of wood on the bottom wing to stop new pilots damaging the wings on landing. @KerlonceauxIndustries
But that would be unrealistic... I might make a single seat fighter version @Mijmaj
@PlanesOfOld HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE I win
@PlanesOfOld then i shall attach guns
No, nothing can be over detailed.. And why is that a problem anyways? @RailfanEthan
Thankyou fine sir! @TheLatentImage
Description took about an hour and a half! @ForeverPie
I know... I uploaded it quite late and WWI planes aren't some people's cup of tea. @TehDuck
No guns and it's a trainer so you're pretty screwed if you try going head on with a fighter. @Mijmaj
Many thanks :D @spefyjerbf
@PlanesOfOld perhaps it's a bit over detailed
This is well done, nice work.
I bet all my Christmas presents you took more time and frustration writing the description than on the plane itself!
I'm suprised by the lack of downloads and upvotes anyway nice job on this
Why does it say no combat?
The effort is obvious here. Well done. Spotlighting because this deserves tons of attention.
In what way? ;) is it over-detailed? It only has 393 parts lol! And thanks for the upvote. @RailfanEthan
can you like, calm down on the engine pls
Link to the AVRO 504 I made 2 years ago, I sense a slight improvement!
