M1118C Commando TOW
An M1118 Commando equipped with dedicated turret with TOW ATGM. This was in response to the inadequacy of the 90mm gun on the M1118B Commando 90 against a new generation of main battle tanks, and the need for dedicated anti-armor units for its reconnaissance elements. Thus, the M1118C Commando TOW was developed to fulfill this requirement.
The Paternian Army later cancelled their orders when they realized that the M1160 Dragoon TOW could do everything the M1118C could do, except better. However, development continued, and the system was adopted by Unity Defense, the African Union, and Berus. It's use by the African Union would bring this machine into the spotlight.
While mostly employed defensively, they have also been used as highly mobile tank destroyers by several factions, notably the African Union. Commando crews were very aggressive, taking advantage of their superior mobility and firepower to engage the heavier machines employed by the Continental African Federation and Prussian Republic at their will.
During the Second Battle of Isandwana, several Nebelpardner IIK main battle tanks were disabled by hunter-killer anti-armor teams and tank destroyers.
These vehicles were modified to employ the Russian 9M113 Kornet-E ATGM instead of the BGM-71E TOW-2A as originally designed, as the 9M113 Kornet-E had over twice the effective range of the BGM-71E TOW-2A at 10 kilometers over 4.5 kilometers. These vehicles proved highly effective against poorly dispersed Prussian armored formations.
This particular example was a non-converted unit which saw combat during the battle, as part of the 38th Mechanized Infantry Division, manned by UDC contractors under Paternian authority.
