In 1957 Panama needed to modify it's naval might, after all the age of missile has came, so they modified the Panamá and San Miguelito with an assortment of missiles and guns.
The Panamá was first to be modified in 1957, equipped with Aim-7 Sparrows bought and modified from the US into the Aim-7-Águila-57 SAM, the PanFlot-1A (A modified Minute man missile) and some CWIS. The Panamá-1957 was eventually retired in 1999 after failed attempts to modernize it
