USS Cleveland, leadship of the Cleveland class light cruisers.

Bearing the nick name Charlie Love Five Five, Cleveland and her 26 sister-ships not only lived throughout the entire war, but were also the most numerous cruisers of WWII originally having 52 ships planned with 3 cancelled (14 in total counting cancelled Fargo-Class), 9 hulls turned into Independence-Class Light Carriers, and 2 Fargo-Class Light Cruisers.

Later on 6 ships of the Class would be converted to CLGs, those being 3 ships for the Galveston-Class, and 3 for the Providence-Class.

Ship History

USS Cleveland was launched in the 1st of November, 1941 and was commissioned a year later, in total 27 Cleveland-Class Light Cruisers were built.

She partook in many campaigns throughout her service life starting from North Africa all the way to the end of the war in the Pacific.

By the end of her service she had recieved a total of 13 battle stars. Along with awards, campaign ribbons and citations.
