HALO D-77TC Pelican
It looks like a ship. It flies like a ship. The D-77 TC Pelican Dropship.
The Pelican is a versatile military dropship and transport aircraft in the Halo universe. Designed by the United Nations Space Command (UNSC), it serves as a reliable troop carrier, capable of transporting soldiers, vehicles, and equipment across hostile environments. With its powerful engines, the Pelican can hover, perform high-speed flight, and execute precise landings. Its distinctive shape features a large, forward-facing cockpit, rear cargo bay, and independently controlled nacelles/wings for maneuverability. The Pelican is iconic for its role in numerous battles, providing vital air support and evacuation during key conflicts throughout the Halo franchise.
The Pelican uses an electromagnet located under the tail section of the aft fuselage to transport infantry vehicles such as the M808B Scorpion or the M12 Warthog. The unique electromagnetic system allows the Pelican to drop and attach cargo with relative ease. To pick up cargo, retract the Pelican's landing gear, position the craft with the magnet over the highest point of the cargo, then reduce VTOL to -1 and pitch up while DE-activating AG 4. This might take a few tries.
There are various different armament layouts for the D-77TC, this one is equipped with the M370 70mm Autocannon, which fires 200 low-velocity high explosive shells at 1148 ft/s (350 m/s) per minute. At sea level, it is capable of 317 kts in clean configuration. Vertical to horizontal flight transition occurs between 40 and 100 kts. Pilots have reported that during transition, the Pelican may experience a sudden, violent downward pitching effect; to correct this, preemptively pitch the nose up while accelerating between the stipulated airspeeds.
All-in-all, the Pelican is a breeze to fly (despite several handling quirks) and handles somewhat realistically, unlike the supermaneuverable Pelicans in the HALO universe. Check out my other HALO builds if you like this one.
Once again, credit goes to @DALS for the M12 Warthog, which I have modified and added to this build.
