Origins :
The Myrmidon was a pre-World War II light tank made by the Grand Republic.
The Republican Army plan of 1926, calling for the creation of a Light Infantry Support Tank, led to the development of many prototypes which ended up in the creation of the K-C1. One hundred and sixty vehicles of this type were produced between 1931 and 1935. There was a pre-series of ten vehicles and later 150 standard vehicles were built. Until 1936 the vehicles were fitted with 37mm canons because the intended cast 25mm Semi-Automatic Canon were not yet ready. The type did not serve as an infantry support tank as originally intended, but as The Republic's major battle tank of the early thirties; it was quickly phased out in 1938 because of its mechanical unreliability and rather slow speed. The tank was relegated to a training vehicle by the middle of the 1940's.
