Russ Class Protected Cruiser
Russ Class is the last 50 remaining left overs from the Svoboda Class, built by the Shaterlot Navy in 1868. They were originally designed as Svoboda Class, but the changes through Naval warfare and the Introduction of Sea Plane Tenders and the arrival of new Fleets of Aircraft Carriers in 1900 led to the creation of the Russ Class. They retained the machinery of Svoboda Class making them the most fastest Protected Cruiser ever to have entered service in any navies.
History
The first Svobodas were launched between 1828 towards 1860s, they performed very well against the enemy ships trying to get close to Shaterlot's Naval Formations. With their powerful armament of numerous 6 inch guns and 2 Torpedo Launchers, the Svobodas put a match against any ships of their time. But the arrival of Sea Plane Tenders in 1865 led to the first Air operations against the Shaterlot Navy. The Shaterlot Navy created numerous weapons against enemy Warships, so they rushed production of Machine Guns and installed them immediately on their ships. This led to the redrawn version of Svoboda, removing almost the entire armament in the center and replacing them with atleast 3 twin Machine Gun mountings. They prove to be vulnerable to enemy machine guns so the manufacturers created an Armored box for the Twin Mountings. This reduced the speed of Traverse for the AA weapons but the crews protection were increased. 9 of these were installed. Russ was the first ship to enter with these present armaments.
Service History
The reduction of the Russ Class' armaments led them to become more successful against enemy air raids, but they became less effective against enemy warships that have potential on closing in. The first 5 ships served for the Main Battle Fleet, where almost all of their most heaviest warships were assigned. As a Protected Cruiser, their main role is to protect other ships from any potential threats. They screened almost the entire fleet of Shaterlot Navy with their considered Heavy AA firepower. They were veterans of wars too, presumably in the 2nd War of Coalitions and the War of Coalitions. Throughout their service life, the Russ Class was proven successful in the sea. The Ships served from 1868 to were phased out in 1912. All of them were scrapped except for the last 7 ships, 5 original Svoboda Class and 2 Russ Class were preserved and was sent as a museum ship.
