Airbus A319, a member of Airbus A320 family, is a reduced version of A320. A319 project was initiated in June 1993 and first flew in August 1995. It was certified in April 1996 and delivered for use in May. With the same fuel volume as the A320-200 and the lower passenger capacity, i.e. 124 passengers in the 2-equation layout, it has a range of 3900 nautical miles (7200 km), which is the longest range model in the Airbus A320 series.
On May 14, 2018, during the cruise phase of Sichuan Airlines flight 3u8633, the front windshield of the right seat of the cockpit broke and fell off, and the crew made an emergency descent. The plane made a safe alternate landing at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport at 07:46 on May 14, 2018. All passengers landed safely, disembarked orderly and were properly arranged. During alternate landing, the right co pilot's face was scratched and his waist was sprained, and a crew member was slightly injured during descent.
