Macchi MC-200 Saetta[WIP]

2,171 52REX  5 months ago
Auto Credit Based on 52REX's Macchi MC-200 V0.1

Before we begin, I would like to point out that this is still a work in progress, I started this as a nice little one day project in order to help myself relax during the exam session, It turned out to be way more time consuming than I expected and because of that, I decided to post this as is. That being said, please forgive that bad excuse of a landing gear, the lack of cockpit interiour, and the unrealistic symetric wings. A subsequent version sometime in the future will see these issues fixed.
Also please do keep in mind that the aircraft you will download from this page has a dark green paintscheme used by Regia Aeronautica Eastern front Units. Check out the desert version here:

Controls

This uses the usual controls ,however, please remember that it was designed to be flown with a joystick and as a consequence flight tested with a joystick, it is perfectly flyable with keyboard but keyboard flyers might still find it annoying, feel free to move the center of weight forward if you feel like it. Mouse as joystick is a good alternative as well.
Flight model is roughly based on the Macchi 200 Serie 3 portrayed in the game IL-2 1946 with HSFX mod Expert mode enabled.
VTOL-flaps
Brake on the ground to reload your guns, ammo limited to 1400 which means 700 per gun, more on that on the armament section at the bottom of the description

Short History

The Macchi C.200 Saetta, or MC.200, was a fighter aircraft developed and manufactured by Aeronautica Macchi in Italy. Various versions were flown by the Regia Aeronautica (Italian Air Force) who used the type throughout the Second World War.

The C.200 was designed by Mario Castoldi, Macchi's lead designer, to serve as a modern monoplane fighter aircraft, furnished with retractable landing gear and powered by a radial engine. The C.200 possessed excellent maneuverability, and its general flying characteristics left little to be desired. Its stability in a high-speed dive was exceptional, but it was underpowered and underarmed in comparison to its contemporaries. Early on, there were a number of crashes caused by stability problems, nearly resulting in the grounding of the type; these problems were ultimately addressed via aerodynamic modifications to the wing.

From the time Italy entered the Second World War on 10 June 1940, until the signing of the armistice of 8 September 1943, the C.200 flew more operational sorties than any other Italian aircraft. The Saetta saw operational service in Greece, North Africa, Yugoslavia, across the Mediterranean, and in the Soviet Union (where it obtained an excellent kill to loss ratio of 88 to 15). The plane's very strong all-metal construction and air-cooled engine made the aircraft ideal for conducting ground attack missions; several units flew it as a fighter-bomber. Over 1,000 aircraft had been constructed by the end of the war.

@WaterFlavouredSpitfires if you wish to see decent replicas of (in my opinion) underappreciated aircraft on this site, consider following this account. I intend to make some really niche planes in the future.

@WaterFlavouredSpitfires yeah, believe it or not people do build intalian fighters, I picked the MC-200 because it was the only Italian fighter that didn't really have a scale accurate replica on this site. Newer Macchis and Reggianes all have high quality replicas made of them already, it made me feel like the 200 is sorely underrated on this site, especially given the fact that it is the most deployed Italian fighter type of WW2 and so i picked it, a subsequent version coming in the future will add detailing such as panelling as well as a functional cockpit and accurate landing gear.
