”Quickly now! Hit that battleship!”
-RAF Pilot
The Bristol Walrus is the first aircraft to come out of the United Kingdom’s heavy aircraft development project codenamed Project Wellington. It was first developed in mid 1943 but full production was postponed until early 1944. The first 25 units were rushed into service and showed great success as a precision bomber and attacker. There were also rumors of a squadron being used as heavy fighters to some success. This aircraft would be used by the Russians and Americans as well in roles such as submarine hunters and tank busters. In mid 1944, Bristol continued to improve upon the Walrus, adding two extra M1942-A2 rotary cannons and increasing the caliber of the ground attack cannons. They also improved the engines and balance of the aircraft to improve its maneuverability and speed. The Walrus Mk.2 was the first version that could be used as a proper heavy fighter.
