Supermarine Phoenix

Interceptor/ light fighter

The Supermarine Phonex is a supersonic light fighter aircraft initially designed as a privately funded project in the late 1960s by Supermarine Corporation in the UK with a joint design team with WinsWings Aeronautics. The design team wrapped a small, highly aerodynamic fighter around a single compact and high-thrust Rollroice RB198 engine, focusing on performance and low maintenance cost. A total of 189 units were built. After years of service with the RAF, the airframes were withdrawn from the front-line services, but some are still in service as advanced trainers.
