McDonnell Douglas Phantom II XL 11.1

Introduction

Anyone like the Phantom? Anyone like the F16XL, well here we have an F4-XL. Using a wing design similar to Mirage aircraft of the same era, the larger wing area allowed for a bit more fuel and ordinance with slightly improved landing speeds and lift characteristics etc.

At the time only the F-14 could carry the Aim-54 Phoenix so it seemed plausible to add this weapon to this aircrafts arsenal.

Controls

Lots of buttons doing lots of things...
AG1 = engiines on (reheat at close to full throttle - including nozzles and aux air in doors)
AG2 = cockpit open/close
AG3 = brake chute (you will need this if landing on a normal runway
AG4 = arrestor hook
AG5 = drop external fuel tanks
AG6 = drop ordinance
AG7 = fold wings
VTOL dn = slats
VTOL up = airbrakes

    @RamboJutter hmm, it must look larger on the real thing because the wing dihedral on the lead thing was larger thanks to the larger wing, apologies for any trouble

    @spectre118 If you are on about the wingtip dihedral, see the image i have added to the description above. The angle is almost exactly what was on the phantom wing even though i have made a completely different wing.

    @RamboJutter well take a look at the way the wing is angled up on the original, it’s a lot sharper that’s all

    @spectre118 why do you think that? The wing is basically from a mirage.

    Great plane but the wing angle should be a bit bigger (maybe to the outermost pylons)

    @RamboJutter IIRC the IRL Phantom have a rather... ahem, unique way of mounting the internal gun right beneath the droop nose...

    @ThomasRoderick thanks, its definately got a gun, just mounted to the side of the left hand intake (the nose droop interfered with it being under mounted)
