Fairey Gannet Style
This is not quite a full reproduction of the Fairey Gannet. You can find its Wiki here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairey_Gannet (sorry not sure how to do linking)
My Gannet is a little smaller, has the wheel wells/pill boxes (which look ridiculous yet somehow fits the look the plane, but helps prevent clipping of landing gear) and has a Gatling gun (which is always nice to have). Let's call mine the Mini Gannet.
Name: Mini Gannet (1953)
Manufacture: Fairey Aviation Company
Role at the time Manufacture: Anti-Submarine, Coastal and Naval Patrol
ALT History Stuff
The Mini Gannet was designed along side with the standard Gannet aircraft and served in the same role in anti-submarine warfare, though the mini gannet also served in coastal patrol for potential pirates, smugglers, and blockade breakers. The Mini Gannet has both a shorter body length and wingspan than the regular Gannet and was designed as mainly a cost savings measure and to stow more aircraft on board a carrier; though it still had the Gannet's signature paired in-line props. The Mini Gannet only had 2 crew (opposed to the Gannet's typical 3): a pilot and a observer/communications/weapons officer. Unlike the normal Gannet, the Mini Gannet allowed the two crew to interact through a crew corridor (rather than physically separated cockpits), though it was small and cramped. The normal Gannets would eventually have its arms removed and refitted for electronics warfare and carrier onboard delivery; while the Mini Gannet would still serve in light coastal patrol roles, communication relay, plus search and rescue operations. Both would be retired in the mid 1970s as better aircraft took their place.
CONTROLS
AG 1 than VTOL Down: Folds wings up for stowing aircraft. (Some pilots have been known to fly with the wings at 5 to 10 degrees up for better clearance on takeoff and up to 15 degrees for better handling.
AG 2 than VTOL Down: Opens bomb bay doors
AG 3: Lighting
AG 4: Arrester Hook
AG 5: Stabilization Gyro (good for bombing runs, and maybe carrier landings).
OPERATIONS
Gun: Single, side mounted 50 calibre Gatling gun; wide spread. (Typical use: Deck clearing, harassing, close quarters defense)
Torpedo: 2 Wing Mounted; (alternative loadout was 2 rocket packs or later sonar buoys)
Bombs: 6 in bomb bay (careful not bounce bombs off own vehicle! The Mini Gannet was well known for the careful angel of attack required for bombing).
Counter Measures: Flares (also used for signally purposes).
Air Brakes: Normal Braking
Trim: Normal, has additional wing mounted flaps for trim.
OTHER NOTES
Things fictionally on aircraft but not operational on plane/In-game: long range radio, radar, initializing sonar (near water deck would pick near surface subs). It will not water takeoff, but it will float in case of need of emergency touchdowns/splashdowns.
Dog Fights: While the Mini Gannet had the mobility for classic dogfights, lack of air-air missiles (would need to be mounted in place of torpedos) and slow speed meant it could not compete with the new up and coming fighter jets of its age.
Carrier Takeoff: Trim up max (pull down on trim controls, default), Warm up engines (press brake button (B) but continue to press up on throttle (keep finger on it) until engines spin up, release brake and go! Note will take some practice.
Carrier Landing: the test pilot (me) is not certified for carrier landings (I suck at it), and future testing is needed to confirm successful carrier landings or need for redesigns to accommodate this (you).
