Background

The M772 Mogul is a radar-guided SPAAG armed four 40mm autocannons, was a revolutionary SPAAG, proving to be an extremely effective weapon against enemy attack aircraft and helicopters under every weather and light condition. The M772 has a very high density, rate and accuracy of fire (8.2 rounds a second per gun), as well as the capability for each of the four autocannons to fire its own type of projectile from separate belts.

The appearance of the Mogul caused significant changes in opposing aircraft tactics that require low flight over the battlefield. The Mogul, despite being largely replaced in favor of the Sheksna, is deadly for enemy light armoured vehicles, infantry and firing points as an infantry-support vehicle. With its high rate of accurate fire and heavy 40mm rounds, the M772 can even neutralize tanks by destroying their gun sights, radio antennas, or other vulnerable parts.

Based on the Mammoth MBT chassis, the Mogul mounts an armored turret holding four liquid-cooled 40mm autocannons linked to a targeting radar. The vehicle weighs 40 tonnes, has a movement range of 700km and a top speed of 55mph.

The vehicle is crewed by a team of four: driver, commander, gunner and radar operator. The driver's compartment is located in the nose part of the vehicle. The fighting compartment is in the center, and the engine compartment is in the rear part of the vehicle.

The Mogul is equipped with an NBCR system with an air filtration unit, fire-fighting equipment, navigational system, infrared vision device, radio set, intercom and electric power supply system.

The 40mm Quad mount can fire on targets at ranges up to 13.5km and at a maximum altitude of 7.4km with a fire rate of 8.2 rounds a second per gun (32.8 rounds per second total). The zone in which a kill against an aircraft is almost guaranteed is about 1-7.6km in which the aircraft would be almost instantly surrounded by a massive barrage of proximity fused rounds and wouldn't have enough time to withdraw from the area before being shot down. Four Wasp ManPADS are mounted in the rear.
