The Kaiser-Fleetwings XBTK was an attack bomber that was intended to replace older scout and torpedo bombers. The type remained a prototype.
Development
The BK project was initiated midway in the World War to replace older scout- and torpedo bombers. A competitor of the VBT competition of the United States Navy, at first it did not performed well due to technical problems. However, when the design was refined and its performance improves its intended role was filled by the Martin BTM (later AM) Mauler and the Douglas BT2D (later AD, then A-1) Skyraider.
The XBTK, along with the mock-up stage A-39, were the only pair that Fleetwings introduced in the military.
