Inspired by Pantropy
The "Flare" is a light directed energy weapon (laser) for the use on vehicles and mechs. It has an effective range of about 1 km (0.6 mi), with a discharge of up to 8 seconds and a cooldown of 2 seconds under the default configuration.
Using optional variable power output (VPO) modules and lens movement arrays (LMA), the "Flare" laser can be easily modified for different uses on the field only with an interface in the vehicle.
It was produced from the mid-21st century onwards, under the Mech Weapon project, to be mounted onto general mechs.
It is effective against nearby armored ground targets, but can easily be countered with longer-range rocketry.
USAGE
The "Flare" module is a weapon capable of searing through armor in a matter of seconds. Mounted on larger tanks, APC/ACVs and mechs, it makes a great counter against most armored ground targets.
It can also be used to cut holes in the walls of the enemy.
The variable power output module is an optional fitting that can be installed. It allows the user to change the energy output of the laser. This also changes the discharge and cooldown times.
Variants of the "Flare" module are used by mech troops of a few countries. Mining variants were used on some colonies.
Over 5000 units across all variants were produced.
Mining variants were released 5-10 years after military and security/policing variants. They used the same outer shell but with a much weaker lasing device.
VARIANTS AND MODIFICATIONS
General modules:
- Variable Power Output (VPO) - changes the energy output and range of the laser
- Moving Lens Array (MLA) - changes the range of the laser
Military
Military variants have the aforementioned effective range of 1 km and a default 8 second discharge with 2 seconds of cooldown. Has VPO and MLA.
Security
For the police and private security corporations. Lower power output and range. Has VPO and MLA.
The security range has three variants of varying power, range and fittings.
A Security range only fitting is the crowd control mode. It is used to temporarily blind large numbers of people at a time.
Mining
Mining variants have a significantly lower range (less than 50 m) and do not have a MLA system. Some variants have a VPO system for mining different minerals efficiently.

Works great
@AgentWash1 you can try this method:
1. Place a very long fuselage block on your build, where you want to attach this
2. Do the same on this build.
3. Attach both builds. They should now be connected by a long rod
4. Shorten the linkage fuselage blocks using the in-game menus. Dont use overload for this
Gekko
So, I've been trying to build something around this and I keep having to pull my frame away from this. The issue I've run into is that there are so many connection points on both that they won't go together the right way and I can't pick up and move the Flare. Any tips or pointers? I'm on android.
really looks like WR would have, i can imagine a Leo with a pack of these. cleaver idea about the more "civil" variants
Nice! I'll use this as a defensive weapon on capital warships.
Now this is a nice gun
Sweet beans
Cool!
