The Klee Ordnance Factory 6BK-1 is a cruise missile, stand-off weapon and anti-ship missile developed from the Narukami kamikaze bombs. (design based on baka bomb, and cruise missiles).

The Japanese had demonstrated the devastating power of the kamikaze tactic since World War II, which sank multiple Allied ships.

In 1947,the Klee bureau decided to retrofit a captured Narukami kamikaze bomb into an anti-ship missile that can be launched on Privateer patrol planes and launch ramps to attack communist materiel nearby.

The 6BK-1 is an unmanned flying bomb conteolled by a command center in an aircraft, or ground by radio control guidance. It is essentially the Narukami kamikaze bomb but without the cockpit and has the same bomb load.

Operational History

It was manufactured in United States, 1949, pressed into service until 1957. Retired and spare units were sent to West Germany in 1954 and finally, Japan in 1955 to counter soviet and communist threats. Drone variants had been built from 1954-1970 as the 1DK-1.

Klee 6BK-1 - Named the Shogun. Variant as built.
Klee 6BK-2 - Shogun name dropped due to protest, named as Sapper instead. Longer nose for more bomb load.
Klee 1DK-1 - Drone.
Klee 6BK-3 - Variant as the Sapper, with J40 engine installed.
Klee 6BK-4 - Variant as the Sapper. Nuclear-capable.
