Me-43 Silver Albtraum
”It’s almost too elegant to be used for war.”
-Generaloberst Dieter Braun to Franz Peter Siegfried at the presentation ceremony
The Me-43 was an experimental aircraft that saw limited use in 1943. Designed and produced by Messershmitt with only 23 being built and another 2 being modified with different weapons and detection equipment. The aircraft was originally meant for intercepting poorly defended bomber formations and smaller air patrols. It was equipped with 6 long range air-to-air missiles, the Me-43 was capable of engaging the enemy without the risk of being engaged. However if needed the aircraft was also equipped with two rotary cannons but dog fighting was highly discouraged due to the aircraft’s poor turn rate and unstable flight when attempting quick changes in direction. The Allies have never seen a full image of the Me-43 because of this fact. Allied pilots dubbed it the Nightmare and the Germans thought it fitting so they took the name and translated it to their language, Albtraum.
The Silver Edition Albtraum was gifted to ace pilot Franz Peter Siegfried by the Führer himself. It featured new detection equipment, new weapons, and a shiny silver plating.
Thanks everyone for silver!
