Ignore the successor, this is not an entry to the challenge
The 1950s gave rise to many a bizarre experimental aircraft, but few are as out there as the french Leduc 0.22. An outlandish design for an interceptor, it was powered by a ramjet that took up most of the fuselage, and the pilot sat in a cramped cockpit inside the intake that resembled an early space capsule.
The whole aircraft looked like a rocket inside a sewer pipe with wings.
Although ramjets were never a true success, the Leduc 0.22 remains an epitome of bizarre experimental planes, and one is preserved at the Musee de l’air et de l’espace, at le bourget in Paris.
