About N-219

The N-219 Nurtanio is a passenger and multi-purpose aircraft developed by PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI). Basic specifications include a 19-passenger capacity and two Pratt and Whitney PT6A–42 production turboprop engines , each rated at 850 shp .This aircraft is capable of flying and landing on short runways making it easy to operate in remote areas.

This aircraft is made of metal and is designed to carry passengers and cargo . This aircraft, which was built to meet FAR 23 requirements , is designed to have the largest cabin volume in its class and flexible doors which ensure that this aircraft can be used to transport passengers and cargo.

The N219 aircraft can be used to transport civilian passengers, military transport, transport goods or cargo, medical evacuation, and aid during natural disasters. Armed with these advantages, this aircraft is also cheaper than similar aircraft, namely the DHC-6 Twin Otter .

The N219 aircraft has a maximum speed of 210 knots , and a lowest speed of 59 knots . This capability allows fairly low but controlled speeds, making it easier to maneuver when passing through cliffs and mountain areas. [4]

PTDI successfully conducted the first flight test of the N219 aircraft on August 16 2017. The flight test was carried out using the N219 aircraft prototype for 340 hours to obtain a type certificate (TC). [5]

After carrying out several test flights, on November 10 2017 the N219 aircraft was given the name "Nurtanio" by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo , at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base Ops , Jakarta . [6] The name Nurtanio was chosen by the President as a tribute to Air Marshal TNI (Posthumous) Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo who was a pioneering figure in the Indonesian aircraft industry.
