Swarm version (multiple spawnable at once) here
- The Defensive bombers series’ aim is to make killing AI bomber targets 10x more difficult, because fun is not allowed. This is done by giving them the ability to shoot back at you >:). All bombers have a semi realistic armament with semi realistic ranges, muzzle velocities, and firing arcs.
- (Wiki)
The Kawanishi H6K was an Imperial Japanese Navy flying boat produced by the Kawanishi Aircraft Company and used during World War II for maritime patrol duties. The Allied reporting name for the type was Mavis; the Navy designation was "Type 97 Large Flying Boat." Developed in the 1930s, it was used for reconnaissance, transport, bombing, naval warfare, and executive transport by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The national airline also used it as commercial airliner. The British mistakenly identified this aircraft as the Kawanishi Navy 97 Mavis.
Gun layout
(Spawn as AI in aggressive mode, guns will activate and deactivate depending on if they are in arc/range.)
Nose
- 1x Type 92 7.7mm machine gun
(Range: 1000m)
Dorsal
- 1x Type 92 7.7mm machine gun
(Range: 1000m)
Beam
- 2x Type 92 7.7mm machine guns
(Range: 1000m)
Tail
- 1x Type 99 Mod 1 20mm cannon
(Range: 640m)
Notes
- This and the H8K are the first two crafts to feature an updated damage system, which seems to work a lot better than on previous bombers. For older bombers, instead of updating their FT (again), I'll be rolling out improved versions with other changes along with the gun damage after I get through a few other projects. Yey.
- I also hope the few people that have been waiting for these for so long are happy now lol
Enjoy getting obliterated!

@ThomasRoderick Ouchhh, I felt that.
@Jaspy190 Sorry, I'm just way too nitpicky and autistic to just sit back and enjoy a good design.... Welp, probably explains why I have few uploads in total! Having a modus operandi of "if I see anything wrong with my build I'll just delete the whole thing" doesn't help whatsoever.
@ThomasRoderick Ah, I didn't know. Thank you for educating me.
@Jaspy190 The point is that they still don't. Contrary to popular belief, aircraft fuel tanks tend to burn instead of explode when hit. Especially because in the same picture we can see the fireball was about twice the size of Hellcat - and that sort of fireball requires a good amount fuel-air mixture igniting, something more common with a plane impacting a hard surface instead of a lucky 20mm hit.
@ThomasRoderick I'm not saying it was the 20mm alone, heavens no, I'm saying that the 20mm likely caused the explosion, likely a very unlucky explosion inside the wing from one or two 20mm shells
@Jaspy190 That sort of fireball requires a much bigger gun. IRL explosive shells - especially those from typical aircraft autocannons - don't usually cause a fireball.
A puff of black/white smoke? Yes. A small fireball if you struck a fuel tank/pipe? Yes. This sort of fireball? Unless your plane crashed into a ground/ship at high velocity when fully laden with fuel, NO.
@ThomasRoderick Considering the multiple 20mm defensive gunners on board, its not surprising
@TemporaryReplacement Aitey
@TheUltimatePlaneLover honestly I’ve lost count myself lol, basically every other build has some change FT wise from the rest of them, gonna hopefully stick to a standard (this one) for once
Defensive Bombers. Version idk.
We are so back.
@ThomasRoderick Lets just pretend the gunners on the Mavis’ were extremely lucky and hit a bomb on the hellcat or somerhing lol
(Mod that I use is here)
Dat screenshot tho
(where the hell did you get THAT sort of explosion from a Mavis fighting a Hellcat?)
cool, i like
