Don't ask where it came from.
Description
The A-4 Skyhawk is a light subsonic attack aircraft made for the US Navy and US Marines Corps. Produced by McDonnell Douglas, it is a single-seat aircraft with a low-mounted delta wing and a cruciform tail, powered by one turbojet engine in the rear fuselage. The Pratt and Whitney J52 turbojet enables speeds up to 1,083km/h/673mph (M0.87) and a service ceiling of 14,600m/47,900ft, with a combat radius of 1,158km/719mi. As a ground attack aircraft, it can carry a wide assortment of weapons, from the Mk. 80 series bombs in triple and sextuple racks, FFAR and Zuni rocket pods, to AGM-12, AGM-45, and AGM-65 guided missiles, while being quite agile itself, able to accelerate, turn, and climb very well. The Skyhawk served most notably in Vietnam, Yom Kippur, and The Falklands, mainly performing air-to-ground missions, it is still in use today as a training and aggressor aircraft in the US and Canada, while Brazil and Argentina still use the type for frontline duties.
Indonesia acquired 31 examples of the Skyhawk between 1979 and 1982, covertly procuring them from Israel under Operation Alpha I and II, with pilot training conducted in Israel itself. They were operational with Skadron Udara 11 and 12, and were used in several campaigns, including Operation Seroja in Timor-Timur, Operation Halau in Natuna, Operation Oscar in Sulawesi, and Operation Rencong Terbang in Aceh. The type were withdrawn in 2003 with the arrival of Sukhoi Su-27s from Russia, it would fly for the last time on 5th August 2004, wherein three Skyhawks made the journey from Makassar to Yogyakarta.
In This SimplePlanes Version,
Well... let's keep this short, this is the A-4 from the independence day video, I made it a cockpit (even though I said I wouldn't), custom airbrakes, landing gear doors, and tuned it's performance, now it looks prettier and functions better, enjoy.
Features
• Realistic paint scheme - based on the blue-grey paint scheme of SkU 11.
• Semi-realistic performance - Speed wise, the roll and turn rate though is a bit arcade-y.
• Detailed cockpit with functionality - I used the same building technique as the F-6C, capturing the essence of the Skyhawk cockpit without fully recreating it to save parts (and headaches), but there's something new in this cockpit, a gunsight, simply press the button on the HUD and it will appear. Also, simulated G-load, the camera now moves up and down in accordance with the aircraft movements, the gunsight also follows it, cool little feature.
• Semi-realistic weaponry - Like usual, guns have buffed damage, bombs is the correct size yada yada yada.
• New details - Landing gear doors and custom airbrakes.
Armaments
2x 20mm Colt Mk.12 autocannons
3x Mk. 82 iron bombs
2x LAU-32/A rocket pods (14x FFAR rockets)
Controls
VTOL - Flaps
Trim - Trim
AG2 - Drop Tank
AG3 - Jettison Weapons
AG4 - Canopy
AG6 - Landing Lights
AG7 - Nav. Lights
Notes
• The flaps collides with the drop tank so only use the flaps halfway if you're flying with the tanks, it won't explode if you pull the flaps all the way down don't worry, it's just unpleasant to look at.
• Apparently it has a drag chute??? I forgot to build it.
• Non-political (because of recent events in Indonesia I had to put this here)
