Savoia S.21 "Folgore"
The iconic red seaplane from Studio Ghibli's classic film "Porco Rosso"
I love this plane, and in honor of @WinsWings Seaplane Challenge I have fully redesigned my previous build with a much lower part count. Hopefully it will be both mobile- and VR-friendly. This version flies well, and doesn't sacrifice too much in the looks department.
In Fact:
During the years immediately following the end of the Great War, the prominent Italian seaplane company Savoia, which would shortly acquire the design talents of Alessandro Marchetti, designed a series of planes with the aim of winning the coveted Schneider Trophy. The bi-wing S.21 was one such aircraft, but it proved difficult to control and never made it past the initial testing phase.
In Fiction:
The S.21 was redesigned as a monowing fighter, but still proved too hard to control on takeoff and landing. The prototype, christened "Folgore," or "Lightning," by the engineers at Savoia, languished in a warehouse until it was purchased by the WWI ace Marco Pagot, the only pilot who had successfully flown the dangerous craft. He flew it throughout the Adriatic in the years leading up to the outbreak of WWII, and gained infamy as a successful bounty hunter. After Pagot was shot down by American mercenary pilot and film star Donald Curtis, the plane was redesigned and rebuilt by Piccolo SPA of Milan.

@ijntaihou44 "Get her in the air and she handles like a dream"
Yeah, I dropped by to just say I defeated a Wasp in a dogfight with this thing completely unmodified. No more is needed to be said about its performance in combat.
I haven’t seen it yet but I love the plane!
I like Laputa and the Valley of the Winds too. yeat The Winds Rises is my favourite
@WinsWings The Wind Rises is so beautiful! I'm not sure if it's my favorite (I'm a sucker for Laputa), but I think it's probably Miyazaki's best.
I am a fan of Miyazaki - "the Wind Rises" is my favorite
Porco Rosso!
