Clamshell

26.9k Sunnyskies  8.0 years ago

Clamshell is a simple plane built to test an invention of mine. Concealed in the pods on the wings are jet engines. When AG 1 is pressed, these pods split apart, revealing the engines. The plane also has flaps and lights. Nothing special really.

AG 1 activates the jets. They are deployed with throttle, so they automatically unfold when the throttle is maxed out. To retract them, simply tap the brake, shut off AG 1, and throttle back up.
AG 6 turns on the lights, and AG 7 activates the landing lamps.
AG 8 shuts off the primary propeller engine.

The plane is pretty easy to fly overall. It glides gently, and is fairly responsive. With jet engines on, it can reach speeds just shy of mach 1 above 30,000 ft.
